Aishwarya Rai Bachchan never fails to wow us! It’s no wonder that she continues to dazzle on the international platform bringing the Cannes Film Festival experience right at our doorstep every year. Beginning in 2002, Aishwarya has been a regular at Cannes over the last 16 years.
She was the first Indian actress to be invited to Cannes and has been the torch bearer of Indian beauty and talent ever since.
Here we take her look at her amazing journey over the years and how she has evolved as a global icon and diva.
Aishwarya made her first appearance at Cannes in 2002 with Devdas and she cherishes those moments at the gala event. She wore an embellished bright yellow saree which was unconventional for a red carpet appearance and received both brickbats and praise for her looks.
Ash returned as a jury member, choosing Neeta Lulla as her designer yet again. One of Aishwarya’s outfits included a green sari with a top knot hairdo which earned her a lot of flak but she took it in her stride. It was definitely not Aishwarya’s most fashionable Cannes outing.
This year, she returned for the first time as the L’Oreal global ambassador and the association continues till today. Her most noticed outfit included a shimmery cut out gown but her look failed to create any positive impact.
This was the year our beauty Queen Aishwarya chose to go with international designers and she dazzled in a black Gucci gown with a plunging neckline. She opened the Cannes festival adding a feather to her cap and made it a proud moment for India.
The Aishwarya starrer provoked was screened at Cannes in 2006. She put her best fashion foot forward and vowed everyone in her midnight blue Roberto Cavalli gown and a snake choker which stood out.
2007 was definitely her year at Cannes as she returned as a newlywed with Abhishek Bachchan in tow. Their hit film, Guru and the teaser of Jodhaa Akbar were the highlight of the festival. Aishwarya looked stunning in a Giorgio Armani gown and a diamond neckpiece.
This was the year the entire Bachchan clan including ma-in-law Jaya and father-in-law Amitabh graced the red carpet to give company to their illustrious daughter-in-law. She emerged a fashionista with her stunning black Elli Saab and fuchsia pink Cavalli gown which can be counted among her best looks.
Ash look every inch the stunning diva she is with her white Cavalli gown which had a tiered skirt. It was a risky look she opted for but emerged in flying colors stunning with her beauty and poise.
Raavan premiered at Cannes in 2010 and among Aishwarya’s best looks, we loved the gold Sabyasachi saree with a simple blouse and the strapless black gown.
The year 2011 saw Aishwarya go with Elli Saab again. She also wowed everyone with her stunning two toned Armani Prive in which she cut a svelte figure. By now, Aishwarya was one of the biggest names at the Cannes festival.
2012 & 2013
The Cannes red carpet saw a slightly different Aishwarya who hadn’t shed her post-partum weight and it became the talk of the town. That didn’t deter this yummy mummy one bit as she embraced her curves and rocked a Elli Saab gown and a Angelo Katsapis maxi dress.
The year 2013 saw Aishwarya begin her reign as the fashionable diva of Cannes with some hits and misses.
2014 & 2015
2014 was when Aishwarya solely shown with international designers.
2015 was the year Aishwarya created a huge impact with her impeccable choices, be it the maroon Oscar de la Renta gown or the green Elli Saab.
Ash’s embellished gowns were the highlights of 2016 but what had everyone talking was those purple lips which no one would forget, for sure.
This year, Aishwarya has rocked as usual. With little Aaradhya in tow, mother and daughter channeled their inner fairy-tale princess and rocked Cannes. Ash successfully experimented with Yanina Couture, Ashi Studio, Ralph & Russo among others looking like a dream in each outfit.
