It has been quite a while that Indian fashion crossed the international borders successfully. The ingenuity of the Indian designers and craftsmen has always pulled the overseas admiration and the pulse is being felt vehemently in the recent years.
Thanks to the development of the Bollywood film industry and the overall promotion of Indian handicrafts, international figures are being seen to be sporting Indian ethnic wear at many of the international events and occasions, much to our glory. Sarees, salwar kameez and lehenga cholis, many of the Hollywood celebutantes and other well known eminent faces are dazzling the red carpets in Indian wear, here is a glimpse of a few:
Elizabeth Hurley: The glamorous “Bedazzled” actor and so called former “Indian bahu” , once being married to the textile baron Arun Nayar, is often spotted wearing sarees. Her love for sarees continues even after her divorce with Nayar, and there have been times when she became the paparazzi’s glee by not wearing a blouse with one!
Anna Kournikova- The tennis player rocked the scene without her tennis bat, at an event in Dubai in a gorgeous yet classic saree. She definitely looks soft and demure in the light blue saree with white detailing at the border.
Victoria Beckham- A fashion designer and a connoisseur herself, Victoria adorned the front covers of Vogue India magazine in a saree and did she look gorgeous! A Tarun Tahiliani designed wear, in red and gold, made her look the diva that she is.
Pamela Anderson- She was a guest participant at the famous television show the Big Boss. Pamela created waves as she made her first appearance in a sea-green lehenga choli. She also changed to sarees a couple of times during her stay at the Big Boss house and captured the Indian hearts.
Oprah Winfrey- She was a guest at an event in India. Oprah chose to go all Indian during her maiden visit to the country, and wore a stunning Tarun Tahiliani designed, Kanjeevaram saree in bright orange. She was again seen in a saree, this time designed by Sabyasachi Mukherjee, at a party thrown in her honor. Usually seen sporting a corporate look, Oprah created quite a stir in the dazzling ethnic wear complete with a bindi!
Uma Thurman- Having made an indelible mark on the silver screen, this gracious actress in rocking the television world now. Uma was seen in a salwar kameez, while shooting for a TV show in the New York City. She completed the traditional Indian look in her hot pink and gold attire with a dazzling neckpiece, bindi and a silver juti! She seemed perfectly comfortable and equally thrilled in her ethnic costume.
The ethnic elegance of Indian wear is spreading at an even pace and capturing international markets. The outcome is all too evident.
