Star Studded Welcome of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in India

The weekend was full of excitement surrounding the seven day India and Bhutan tour of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. As expected, the trip turned was worth every bit of the extensive media coverage with the Duchess Taj Mahal (it had been earlier visited by Princess Diana), enjoying a quick game of cricket with Sachin Tendulkar, being addressed in an eye catching dress created by Anita Dongre.

The major highlight of the trip was the time the royal couple spent with some of the biggest names in Bollywood. The Duchess of Cambridge sported an embroidered Indian-style Jenny Packham gown with a gathered skirt, matching stole and Amrapali earrings at the charity dinner.

Celebrities who welcomed them to India included Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit Nene, Aishwariya Rai Bachchan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Alia Bhatt, Huma Qureshi, Aditi Rao Hydari, Arjun Kapoor, Shilpa Shetty Kunra, Kanika Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra. The social media was abuzz with pictures related to the royal couple’s visit to India. Some of the most popular pictures include a shot of Prince William and Kate at Mumbai’s Ban Ganga, Manish Malhotra’s star studded group photo which was taken during the royal dinner and Karan Johar’ selfie with Shahrukh Khan.

Be it about flaunting traditional saris or Indian dresses or about using indigenous crafts from India, designers expressed their views on how they would like to see the pretty Duchess of Cambridge in outfits closely related to India’s heritage. Once the couple landed in India, the excitement surrounding their visit reached an all-time high, Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge stole the limelight from her husband. The couple landed in India on April 10th, paying a visit to Taj Hotel(Mumbai) in order to pay respects to victims of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. Kate was wearing a red Alexander McQueen with paisleys.

The royal couple then visited the Oval Maidan ground where they met and played with local kids. She impressed anyone with her infectious energy in a spirited manner, far of a home. It’s little wonder why she is one of the most loved royals. Their next destination was the ancient Banganga Water Tank, Malabar Hill, where they were greeted with garlands and tilak. The evening was the most eventful part of the day as William and Kate met some of the most reputed industrialists in India.

The Duke also launched the Tech Rocketship Awards to honor some of the brightest young talents who had started tech startups. Keeping thing formals, the Duchess sported a cream-colored Emilia Wickstead wool crepe dress. She gave the apparel a perfect finishing touch with blush-pink pointed pumps created by Rupert Sanderson and a Mulberry clutch.
