A guide to the sizzling Sarees of Rani Mukherjee

rani mukherjee in gold-sareeRani Mukherjee, Bollywood’s Bong star is mostly seen dressed in Sarees. Not only she sports this Indian look in award nights but she looks extremely comfortable and chic, being in the skin of the quintessential Indian woman. In sarees, though she endorses many designers, but it is Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s creation that she prefers wearing the most.

Rani Mukherjee’s take on Sarees

Rani seems to have a fetish for the color red. Be it a gorgeous heavy polka dotted saree with golden gota patti (border) on the pallu that she wore at Shilpa Shetty’s wedding reception or a simple saree in net fabric, it is the color red that is dominant in her choice.

She was once spotted in a translucent saree, which made her look sizzling, more because of the color red and the revealing silver crystals laced doris at the back of the blouse. The poise to carry a see-through net saree as well as a heavy designer silk saree is always seen in Rani. At the launch of Dance Premier League, Rani was seen wearing a golden saree with red velvet patti (border) with golden embroidery on the pallu, which clearly reveals in some form or the other, the color red is present in her attire. She looked gorgeous in this Manish Malhotra design.

Rani loves to wear net and tissue sarees as she has been witnessed most of the times wearing sarees of this variety. Among other kinds, she prefer chiffons and at special occasions silks. However, during the Durga Puja she is mostly seen wearing the Handloom Cotton Sarees of Kolkata or the heavy silks of Southern India. A great sense of mixing her saree wardrobe gives this Bong beauty a mix of a girl-next door as well as a diva look.

Rani Mukherjee’s take on Accessories

Rani surely knows what to wear with what kind of saree to get the appropriate simple yet diva look. She knows how to strike the right balance in sarees and its accessories. She likes wearing simple round banjara earrings with dark royal blue sarees, which are elegantly laced with rusty shades brocade and golden botis.

She has also been spotted wearing a chunky pearl necklace suiting pink sequins work done on chiffon saree at a certain occasion, which she paired it with a silk sequined halter blouse. Rani usually prefers big bangle earrings to small tops.

She is hardly seen carrying purses, but the lady didn’t lag behind in matching polka dotted red saree, she wore at Shilpa Shetty’s reception, with a sleek golden clutch. Rani loves to wear halter neck and noodle strapped blouses, which gives the “diva look” with see-through chiffons and net sarees.

Whatever, the saree type is, whatever the color is, this lady knows how to capture the hearts of millions of fans with her effortless yet dazzling Indian stylization in nothing other than India’s National dress – sarees.

Filmfare Awards 2011 became an Exhibition of Sarees

2011 filmfare awardAward ceremonies have always been a platform for fashion designers to flaunt their designs through the celebrities. This year’s Filmfare Awards was also no exception. However amidst all the stunning apparels, our national dress stood out predominantly as the preferred choice of the celebs.

Here’s a glimpse into the starry world where the flowing fabric graced the red carpet:

Poonam Dhillon exemplified the Desi girl look in large golden patterned emerald green saree with purple border. The look was completed with a captivating piece of ruby stoned jewelry, a stone studded bracelet and a sleek silver clutch.

Isha Koppikar looked immaculate in her off-white saree. The glamour quotient was added to her by the light touch of gold detailing in her saree, the apt golden clutch and the traditional earrings, which furthered the charm.

The wives of Shatrughan Sinha and Vishal Bharadwaj, Poonam Sinha and Rekha Bharadwaj, made an elegant statement with off-white sarees with all over designs and a lustrous red saree with a matching batwa, respectively.

A shot of blood red mixed with an orange is what made Sara Jane Dias stand out. This double-hued saree was perfectly balanced with beige blouse and clutch of the same color to complement the beige prints on the saree.

There was seen a role reversal in Priety Zinta and Rani Mukherjee, where the former is mostly seen in gowns, graced the ground by wearing a red Manish Malhotra creation, and the later mostly in seen in saree had worn a purple gown. The delicate fabric looked superb on Preity, which had intricate detailing on the saree and the blouse. The saree paired with a pair of ethnic danglers and a matching batwa, the chic look was complete.

In a Black Sabyasachi Mukherjee Saree, Vidya Balan looked stunning as she subtly harmonized the simple saree with gaudy yet refined jewelry. The ladies in black, Vidya and Dia Mirza sizzled the red carpet at the ceremony. Dia looked scintillating in a Gaurav Gupta creation, with a lacy choli that added to the effect.

As a norm, the head turner of the function was evergreen Rekha, who looked the golden girl in her multi-hued silk saree. With her long plait with tassels at the end and the traditional heavy jewelry she looked divinely gorgeous and arty.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan entered with her Pa-in-law Amitabh Bachchan, as a stark contrast to his black suit; she looked pristine in her white ensemble. The crystal embroidered silvery white saree and the perfect clutch to go with it, imparts an angelic look to this paragon of beauty.

Alka Yagnik’s bold look in a black saree patterned with bright red prints with a suitable clutch looked quite lovely.

Claudia Ciesla also joined the saree brigade looking like a mermaid in a glistening saree in hues of green and gold.

Another Sabyasachi Mukherjee Saree graced the occasion with Shriya Saran doing the honors. With long sleeves and a low neckline she looked ethnic. The last touches to complete the look were the traditional jhumkas.

Aarti Chabria, in her peacock-blue saree embroidered with large golden designs looked fashionable as she matched the saree with contrasting bangles and a perfect golden clutch.
