She was awarded with a accolade of “Woman Of Worth “. Our favourite dressed up person for the night was Dippanita Sharma. This pretty lady wore a Blue , Green and White camera print Saree by Masaba and looked simply exotic.. The drape was interesting in itself and she completed her look with a bun hairdo, traditional jewellery, a little bindi and the metallic clutch. Kudos to her from our side for carrying the look so well.

Actress Lara Dutta who was blessed with a baby girl recently looked spectacular in a Sea Green and golden saree by designer Rocky S. She was awarded with the title of ” Face of a Cause”. 57th Filmfare Awards 2012

Red Carpet of a Award function is no less than a Fashion Show and this Filmfare Awards was one spectacular show. Through the years, Filmfare has become the most awaited event while the Bollywood film fraternity as well as the audience look forward to this night of nights. The Bollywood beauties once again showed their preference for Indian ethnic wear over western wear. We at Sareez are delighted to give our customers a range of choice to get their custom sarees made taking inspiration from this Red Carpet.

Our favourite was Deepika Padukone who showed up in a a sheer peach Anamika Khanna Saree. This wonderful piece of creation had short sleeves silver tissue saree blouse accented with floral crystal appliqué , matching the appliqué adorned saree. We were confused between Raveena and Madhuri as they both made a statement with their selection of saree . Raveena adorned a hot red plain saree with lace border which was paired with designer short sleeves saree blouse. As for Madhuri , hers was a white saree which had a gradation of grey with thick border and a maroon coloured saree blouse. We loved her , what about you?

The industry’s hottest pair of sisters made an appearance together and they both looked gorgeous in a saree. For Karishma it was elegant Manish Malhotra Saree number with designer sleeveless saree blouse. The saree itself was embroidered shimmer with studs an red lace border. Kareena was also in a Manish Malhotra number.

Sonali Bendre and Dia Mirza gave us somewhat similar looks and both looked pretty . What we love about Dia is she always carries herself with great panache. Both were wearing a white number with plain border and paired them up with elbow length saree blouse. Sonali was in a Abu Jani & Sandeep Khosla design while Dia wore a Anamika Khanna Saree.

Other who made an appearance in a saree were Vidya Malvade , Vidya Balan , Udita Goswami , Aruna Irani , Usha Uthup ,Sara Jane Dias , Rekha and top notch models Alecia Raut and Deepti Gujral.

Indian Fashion goes International with Anamika Khanna

anamika khannaAnamika Khanna is a well known name in the fashion fraternity. Without any sort of formal training in designing, she jumped into the limelight when she won the Damania Fashion awards. Since then the versatile nature of her work has firmly kept her in the midst of that spotlight.

Anamika Khanna’s work consists of two lines, her Prêt line and her Couture line. The strong points of her designs are the interplay of color and craft with emphasis being on trousseau wear. Most of her designer wear is influenced by global designs blended with ethnic Indian crafts. Anamika Khanna’s prêt line consists of quirky outfits which take the concept of tendy to entirely new levels. The harmonious blend of eastern and western wear has made her popular worldwide and she boasts of an impressive clientele from Spain, UK, USA, Thailand, Japan, Dubai etc.

Anamika Khanna’s demand has escalated significantly over the last few years which in turn has led her to retail from several outlets. Some of her retailers include at Carma (New Delhi), Ogaan (New Delhi & Kolkata), Ensemble (Mumbai & New Delhi), Espee (Kolkata), Ffolio (Bangalore and Chennai), Kimaya, and Elahe. Her signature outlet however, is based in Kolkata and is a defining landmark in terms of style. Anamika Khanna’s most recent work is the launch of her international label ‘Ana Mika Boho’ which will make its debut in UK.

Anamika’s designs showcase an excellent understanding of silhouettes and use of fabrics. Each individual piece is treated innovatively to give a unique look. Patchwork antique brocades, tanchois, silks, shot silk and various other fabrics are used for tailoring kurtas, blouses, jackets, tops, corsets and even pajams, skirts and such items.

Anamika Khanna has also created garments based on Indian textile craft and merged it with a bold style. The collections were ornamented with applique and kantha work on block prints on net, muslins and cottons. One of her revolutionary designs included leg warmers paired with wrapped tops and topped with webbing straps. The collection was both refreshing and sexy.

Textured clothes and vivid colors are her signature. The outfits are comfortable and yet exude sensuality. The major feather in Anamika Khanna’s hat was the overwhelming response to her wacky designer wear at the Lakme India Fashion Week Grand Finale in 2004. The success of that event was of a magnitude not seen before in the country. Close on the heels of that event came her success at the London Fashion Week in 2005. Khanna’s design at the London Fashion Week created a furore in Europe. British retail giant Harrod’s offered her an exclusive contract based on her creative demand at the London Fashion Week.

The contract with Harrods sealed her fate as a designer of name as well as fame in India. Her success story is an inspiration to aspiring designers worldwide.

Anamika Khanna’s Bridal Collection

anamika khanna bridal collectionAnamika Khanna’s Bridal Collections are all about veering away from the traditional. Demure bridal designs are passé for her. Her bridal wear is all about sharp cuts and elegant silhouettes. While Anamika Khanna does use a lot of traditional gold, her bridal collection breaks the rules by experimenting with black as well.

Her avante garde designs got her an invite to the Bridal Asia event held in Pakistan. She attended the prestigious Bridal Asia event along with two other prominent Indian designers. The designer’s creations are ruled by royal influences which are reminiscent of the Maharajas of yesteryear. As a nod to contemporary tastes, the blingy and glitzy dresses of yesteryears were toned down into softer hues with liberal use of gold and silver.

Keeping the tastes of the new age bride in mind, Anamika tries to draw a compromise between the uber modern and the traditional. The results? A red sharara with black patchwork..or maybe netted leggings with a flowy white top. The dresses are sure to cater to modern demands as well as keep the in-laws happy. The designer’s talents know no bounds when it comes to clothes. The artistic creations are tailored keeping in mind both the modern scenario as well as our cultural heritage.

sonam kapoor in anamika khannas collectionAn interesting twist given by Khanna in one of her bridal collection shows was to base an entire collection around Indian Dhotis. The humble dhoti, under the designer’s skillful hands, was transformed into beautiful cowl dresses. Anamika Khanna’s latest muse, Bollywood artist and fashionista Sonam Kapoor, displayed the key piece of that collection which was a drape dress in stunning golden tones with mukesh work on the bodice and subtle embellishments on the skirt to define the folds of the cowl. The same show also featured other creative show stoppers such as drape dresses in monochrome, coats with pleats, layered saris and tunics. The clothes were embellished with pearls and cut flowers which was refreshing for the fact that the same old designs and embroidery was effectively avoided. It was a completely new concept which till then had not been explored by any other designer.

Anamika Khanna’s bridal collection is well known for her unique blends of Indian and western elements. In the designer’s own words, her goal is to elevate Indian traditional crafts to an international level. This fact was proven by her recent collection at the Delhi Couture Week where fitted jackets, lehenga cholis and dresses dominated the ramp. Among all of her bridal creations memorable designs include such gems as unconventional asymmetrical hems made by knotting the sides of the garments, floral embroidery work, trelliswork, detailing with Rajput figurines and pearl embellishments. Her fabrics are fluid and shimmery giving the outfits a very feminine look. Anamika’s flawless design sensibilities and construction make sure her creations are eye catching always.

As compared to her counterparts like Manish Arora or Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Anamika Khanna is lesser known outside of India. Yet, her kitschy and jazzy creations are now rapidly getting her the attention she deserves.

Sari is an Indian attire, which has a mesmerizing grandeur about it. The charm has even crossed the boundaries of the country itself making even foreigners interested in it. However, due to the complex and often confusing way of wearing a sari, it has led many Indian women to turn away from it on regular days and resort to other types of dresses. However, even though it is time consuming to wear a sari, the beauty it imparts to the wearer cannot be overlooked. That is why even new-generation fashion designers are also taking keen interest in this attire making them off-beat and attract more women to it form of Indian Ethnic Wear.

The top Indian fashion designers have set their eyes now to make sari a form of contemporary style-statement. This involves coming up with more and more chic designs that are sometimes gorgeous to suit the occasion and sometimes simple but stylish for day-to-day wear and tear. This wide variety in sari is incorporated to make it afit attire for the busy and fast urban lifestyle now-a-days. The term ‘neo sarees’ perfectly describes this new trend.

Designers are approaching to give a make-over to saris by turning them into-easy-to-wear dress while not compromising on the glamour quotient at all. Pyjama sari is a very good example of one of these approaches. Created and showcased fashion designers Anamika Khanna, this sari design has a pyjama in it instead of a petticoat. The result is to allow the wearer walk in comfort without experiencing the feeling of the petticoat getting stuck with the folds of the sari. It also has crushed muslin pallus adding much style to the entire outfit.

Wendell Rodricks has come up with the innovative design of a sari gown. These off-beat sari-gowns are very comfortable as these have built-in choli and split pallu. It keeps the sari and its pallu in place which can pose a problem for the novices wearing sari. Yet another fabulous Wendell Rodricks creation is the jersey saree. Due to its casual and bold looks it impresses the young generation mostly. Moreover, it goes well with all- tops, tunics, pencil skirts and more.

In Nida Mahmood’s creation we find east meets west where she has made her models wear sari with jeans. Another strikingly contemporary and high on style is the design created by Sabyasachi Mukherjee. His creation is the Chhotu Sarees which is inspired by the way tribal women wear sari.

These are some of the new sari designs brought into the contemporary fashion world by some of the really talented minds and their endeavor to make sari not lose its timeless appeal.
