With the award seasons starting its time again for the Bollywood beauties to be in limelight with their stunning looks and garments. The 18th annual Colors Screen Awards was the first award function of the season and many of them made us happy when they chose to wear the Indian ethnic dresses. While some dressed up prettily in gowns and dresses , it was Indian Traditional attire that ruled the fashion scene of the awards.

Our favourite was Priyanka Chopra who wore a Manish Malhotra saree . It was sheer mesh saree, embellished with sequined patchwork and a maroon velvet border. Katrina Kaif blowed our mind with her ‘sizzling in pink ‘ look. While her look once again brought back the memories of ‘teri ore ‘ from Singh Is King yet we are not complaining. She paired her saree with a gold sleeveless sequined saree blouse. After net and sequence it was time for some velvety look which was given to us by Sonali Bendre. Dressed in a Abu Jani – Sandeep Khosla, Sonali donned an ink blue saree with emerald and green velvet trimming. She teamed up with a velvet blouse.

Well this is what our Hollywood celebrities and Socialites are seen wearing on various events. Nowadays, many celebrities have taken a fancy to wear a saree to parties and gatherings to make a stylish statement. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has initiated this latest trend of wearing saree in Hollywood, when she went to the Oprah Winfrey show and demonstrated how to wear a saree to Oprah. Since then every other celebrity seems to have been bitten by the saree bug.

Saree have been popularized in the West by Bollywood flicks and the Indian designers, who are making their mark overseas. Like Manish Arora, Rohit Bal, Ritu Kumar, Sabyasachi Mukherjee and others are the faces of Indian dress designing in Hollywood. With a matching blouse and a petticoat, the saree can be easily draped around the body to create a traditional Indian look.

Saree in India itself can be worn in various styles but the most predominant way to wear a saree was shown by Aishwariya Rai on the Oprah show. The first name that spring up in Hollywood at the name of a saree is Elizabeth Hurley. Being married to Indian entrepreneur Arun Nayar, she is seen on various occasions sporting a saree. Recently at an event about breast cancer, Liz Hurley was seen wearing a pink polyester saree with silver sequins laced on the borders. She paired it up with a silver bracelet, silver danglers in ears and a pink sleeveless blouse with silver sequins on it.

In 1996, when the Miss World pageant was held in India, the winner of the crown, Greek lady Irene Skliva wore a saree, which suited her beautifully. Many personalities like Ashley Judd, Patricia Arquette, Angelina Jolie, Victoria Beckham, Jessica Alba, Madonna and Helen Mirren have been seen sporting the Indian look in a saree. Cameron Diaz in a photo shoot looked like a diva in a black saree with Rajasthani embroidery worked on it, which she paired with a black noodle-strap and thin golden chains around her neck. Similarly, tennis player Anna Kournikova have been seen in a sky blue cotton saree, which with a simple halter blouse of the same color and a gold bracelet completed her look.

The recent one to join this bandwagon is Baywatch girl Pamela Anderson. She was lately seen in an Indian reality show wearing a white chiffon saree, which she matched with a white noodle-strap blouse with a dropping neckline. Though the saree has become one of the favorite choices of celebrities in the West, they are even known to raise controversies wearing them. Like Heidi Klum had to face repercussions for appearing in a Halloween Party as the Hindu Goddess Kali. So they have to be a bit careful as to what and how they wear a sarees.
