Filmfare Awards 2011 became an Exhibition of Sarees
Award ceremonies have always been a platform for fashion designers to flaunt their designs through the celebrities. This year’s Filmfare Awards was also no exception. However amidst all the stunning apparels, our national dress stood out predominantly as the preferred choice of the celebs.
Here’s a glimpse into the starry world where the flowing fabric graced the red carpet:
Poonam Dhillon exemplified the Desi girl look in large golden patterned emerald green saree with purple border. The look was completed with a captivating piece of ruby stoned jewelry, a stone studded bracelet and a sleek silver clutch.
Isha Koppikar looked immaculate in her off-white saree. The glamour quotient was added to her by the light touch of gold detailing in her saree, the apt golden clutch and the traditional earrings, which furthered the charm.
The wives of Shatrughan Sinha and Vishal Bharadwaj, Poonam Sinha and Rekha Bharadwaj, made an elegant statement with off-white sarees with all over designs and a lustrous red saree with a matching batwa, respectively.
A shot of blood red mixed with an orange is what made Sara Jane Dias stand out. This double-hued saree was perfectly balanced with beige blouse and clutch of the same color to complement the beige prints on the saree.
There was seen a role reversal in Priety Zinta and Rani Mukherjee, where the former is mostly seen in gowns, graced the ground by wearing a red Manish Malhotra creation, and the later mostly in seen in saree had worn a purple gown. The delicate fabric looked superb on Preity, which had intricate detailing on the saree and the blouse. The saree paired with a pair of ethnic danglers and a matching batwa, the chic look was complete.
In a Black Sabyasachi Mukherjee Saree, Vidya Balan looked stunning as she subtly harmonized the simple saree with gaudy yet refined jewelry. The ladies in black, Vidya and Dia Mirza sizzled the red carpet at the ceremony. Dia looked scintillating in a Gaurav Gupta creation, with a lacy choli that added to the effect.
As a norm, the head turner of the function was evergreen Rekha, who looked the golden girl in her multi-hued silk saree. With her long plait with tassels at the end and the traditional heavy jewelry she looked divinely gorgeous and arty.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan entered with her Pa-in-law Amitabh Bachchan, as a stark contrast to his black suit; she looked pristine in her white ensemble. The crystal embroidered silvery white saree and the perfect clutch to go with it, imparts an angelic look to this paragon of beauty.
Alka Yagnik’s bold look in a black saree patterned with bright red prints with a suitable clutch looked quite lovely.
Claudia Ciesla also joined the saree brigade looking like a mermaid in a glistening saree in hues of green and gold.
Another Sabyasachi Mukherjee Saree graced the occasion with Shriya Saran doing the honors. With long sleeves and a low neckline she looked ethnic. The last touches to complete the look were the traditional jhumkas.
Aarti Chabria, in her peacock-blue saree embroidered with large golden designs looked fashionable as she matched the saree with contrasting bangles and a perfect golden clutch.
